Chongqing 重庆 "City of Bridges 桥梁之城"
On March 14, 1997, the city was merged with the neighboring districts of Fuling, Wanxian, and Qianjiang and it was separated from Sichuan to form Chongqing Municipality, one of China's four direct-controlled municipalities. The other three are Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin. It is the only municipality that is not on East coast.
It is a modern port city on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers. With an area of 31,800 square miles (82,400 square kilometers), it shares borders with provinces of Hubei, Hunan, Guizhou, Sichuan, and Shaanxi.
My first visit to Chongqing was in 1984. My first thought of the city was that if you're walking about and you drop a rounded object might as well kiss it goodbye unless you have very quick reflexes. Almost every street was on an incline. A lot has changed since. I returned for a second and third visit during our time of Seeds of Hope trips in 2011 and 2015.

Visit with my former student
I had Steven as a student from 1985-1987 while teaching in Tianjin. I gave him the nickname Sugar because his hometown was famous for sugar. From that point on all his classmates called him Sugar. He eventually changed his name to Steven because Sugar wasn't very “professional”. It had been nearly 20 years since we last saw him.

Zhuoxi Primary School 濯水镇濯西小学
While Zhuoshui Town Zhuoxi Primary School 濯水镇濯西小学 is technically a SoH school, it was YCIS Chongqing's sister school and we had no relationship with the school and that is why I did not include this in my SoH page. We were fortunate to have made a trip before the renovations. YCIS raised funds to remodel one of their buildings that had not been in used due to structural instability.
