Mongol Ethnic Group 蒙古族 ᠮᠣᠩᠭᠣᠯ ᠦᠨᠳᠦᠰᠦᠲᠡᠨ
This is a special group that is dear to us. While we have yet to visit Inner Mongolia, we have bonded in a special way with two families from different parts of Inner Mongolia. Facetime and WeChat are wonderful source of connecting with people. Since my retirement over 2 years ago, we have wanted to visit Inner Mongolia. But COVID took place and put everything on hold.
We had hoped to be an encouragement to our brothers and sister in the area. Since we couldn't visit, I thought another way to encourage them was to have my calendars in the Mongol Script language. I learned that the traditional Mongol Script is now only used by the Inner Mongolians. Even the Mongols in Mongolia have adopted the Cyrillic Mongolian alphabet and no longer use Script. One of the sisters we know is a teacher, so we send them stationary for the school and their children each year. We can't wait to meet them face to face.
There are nearly 6 million Mongols in China. Most of them live in Inner Mongolia, Northeast China, Xinjiang and Qinghai. The Mongol population in China is nearly twice as much as that of the sovereign state of Mongolia.
