After helping 7 schools in China, Seeds of Hope looked outside our borders to see who we could bless.
YCIS heard of Kids International Ministries in Manila, Philippines. They were in the process of
expanding of building a high school that would greatly benefit the local community. In 2018, YCIS
embraced KIM and 2 years
later KIM is now in the final stages of their construction of the high school.
Beginning in 2018, we have taken three trips to help their ministry and serve in whatever capacity.
We have also brought stationary and clothing to distribute to the community. Our students have been
impacted greatly in these trips. I'd like to invite you to browse through the galleries below and
see how our teams have served KIM.
KIM's mission is creating change and breaking the cycle of poverty in their local communities. For
complete information and how you can support them:
As with all our SoH trips, one of our goals is to serve the school or ministry in some way other
than teaching. We were able to help with the building the wall that would surround the school.
As our students and teachers help with the construction, they are given a wonderful
opportunity to learn about the process of constructing a building, how to mix cement, and
how to apply it on the surfaces.
They return home knowing that
years from now they helped lay some of the bricks in the foundation. But most importantly,
they gain a deeper appreciation for those people who helped construct the house they live
in.
Local Community
This galley is a just a glimpse of the local community surrounding KIM. The people are very friendly and just so grateful.
Jeepneys (Filipino: Dyipni), sometimes called simply jeeps (Filipino: dyip), are buses and
the most popular means of public transportation ubiquitous in the Philippines. They are
known for their crowded seating and kitsch decorations, which have become a wide-spread
symbol of Philippine culture and art.
I met this family on my first day in the community. They were very happy for me to take
their photo. The baby was a few months old.
On my second trip a year later, I returned and looked for the family because I had printed
their photo from my first trip. They were still there, but only the mother and baby were
home. They were so happy to have gotten the photo. The baby has grown so much.
New Faith Family Children's Home
One of the main ministries of KIM is providing a home for children without a home. They range
from pre-school to high school age. Part of our team visits is to interact with the children by
playing with them. The work KIM is doing with these children is amazing.
Children's Home Devotion
At night before the children go to bed, there is about an hour of devotion. Since I teach character education, I gladly volunteered to lead the devotions. I translated my presentations into Tagalog and had the children read it together. I also brought worksheet activities to reinforce the lessons. By the end of our last trip, the children were asking which word I was teaching them.
Cuatro Christian School (CCS)
CCS is one of the ministries of KIM. They currently have ECE through Grade 10. The new high
school building should be completed very soon and thus able to teach through Grade 12. Our teams have participated in several activities
with their high school students. Browse through this gallery and get to know CCS students and
staff.
Yunjin Lyso Ministry Center
The YMC is the hub of all
that is KIM. When teams come to serve they are housed at YMC guest rooms. Their offices are also located there. We
eat, fellowship, and even help with some of their renovations of the premises.
Serving KIM
When our teams go on these SoH trips we are always looking for ways to serve the school or community. KIM offers great opportunities to serve both. Beside helping with the school construction we also helped with various renovations around the facilities.
Hope Alive Pregnancy Clinic
The service that Hope Alive Clinic provides is truly indispensable to the community. Our female students and staff have had the greatest opportunity to learn about pre-natal care.
Because the community is impoverished, most of the pregnant ladies go through their pregnancy without getting the check-up, vitamins or nutrition they need to have a healthy pregnancy and baby.
Hope Alive provides the pre-natal care needed and every time they visit they are given a package of vitamins, eggs and other essentials.
Our students and staff learn how to take blood pressure, update their medical records, and how to measure the size of the tummy. Truly, no other place can provide such a wealth of education and serving at the same time.
Tent City Feeding Site
This community is called Tent City because originally the people began with just tents for
their homes. It later became a some what city as numbers grew. They then began to build
their homes. Like most of the impoverished communities KIM help feed, the homes are built
with whatever they can find such as: boards, cardboard, styrofoam. The roof are of metal
shingles. Tent City has one of the better quality homes of all the impoverished communities
I have visited.
The food distributed at the various communities are prepared and cooked that day. KIM staff begin preparation before 5:30 each morning. Our team volunteered to help on each trip we have taken.
Angono Feeding Site
Mahayhay Feeding Site
River of Life Church is where food is distributed. It's deep in the heart of Mahahay village. There is singing and worship before distribution begins.
Manggahan Feeding Site
Dumpsite Feeding Site
REAL Feeding Site
REAL Feeding site is the furthest community we had visited. It's located about 3 hours away. The site is in Malapad Elementary School. The feeding is organized by the local pastor of the church just next to the school.
