The transformation of Qufu Primary School
Since the founding of SoH initiative, we have enjoyed the longest relationship with Qufu Primary school. We have taken 17 trips in the past 8 years. Our first trip to bring parents was to Qufu. Not only have we enjoyed a long relationship with the school, but I have also been privileged to see the growth of some of these children and cultivated a close relationship with one particular family in the village.
Sadly, due to the danger mining in the area had posed to the stability of the land, the authorities began to relocate the villagers. Between late 2017 and early 2018, the villagers began to slowly relocate and their homes demolished (most of the homes were just newly built). March 2019 was our last visit to the school. It would close it's doors that Summer. Please browse through the photos below to see the transformation of key areas of the school through the years as well as the galleries of activities.

Activities 2016-2019
The more we visited Qufu, the more experienced we gained. This helped bring fresh ideas for activities and unique experience for their students. Unfortunately, by Fall 2017, the numbers of students began to dwindle. By our last visit in March 2019, the number dropped to barely 50. The school would close that summer.
Xingtan School

Xingtan Primary School
Due to the dwindling numbers of students at the Qufu school, we asked if another school would welcome our team to carry out some activities. We were introduced to Xingtan Primary School. I recognized one of the teachers at the school. She was a former teacher from the Qufu school.

Village Life

Village Life
One of the joys of visiting the school was seeing many of the villagers. While I didn't know their names, I recognized most of them and they recognized me. Seeing the smiles on their faces was awesome. While many of the students lived in the newly built homes, many still lived in quite poor conditions. It was such a shame seeing their homes demolished at the end.

Village Homes

Village Homes
Most of the homes in the village were newly built and had great potential to be quite nice. But since this was a farming community, much of the space was used to store the crops and much of the indoor decoration was non-existent. But overall, their home served a purpose and were quite content. Their front gates were extraordinarily huge and the nicer homes had a wall with a mural of tiles with a design. Some were quite nice.
